For Kids & Families

Programming, ensembles, and events for the youngest symphony-goers.

Family Concert

Each year, we present affordable concerts for the entire community. Past partnerships have included the Eastern Connecticut Ballet, the New London Poet Laureate, and Connecticut College. Whether it’s Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue, Prokofiev’s Peter and the Wolf, or Saint-Saëns’ Carnival of the Animals, these concerts enable families who could not otherwise attend to experience a live symphony orchestra. In the weeks before these concerts, check out your local library, where you may find one or more of our musicians playing their instrument and reading during storytime. For a more immersive experience, arrive early to these concerts for some pre-concert activities including our instrument petting zoo. Thanks to grant funding, we are also able to provide “Kid Notes” (an introductory program book for children under 12) in both English and Spanish, a welcome from a bi-lingual host, and script translations that ensures an inclusive environment for everyone in our community.

Instrument Petting Zoo

A pre-concert activity at our family and youth concerts that includes many of the instruments in the orchestra. In partnership with Stewart’s Music in Niantic, kids and patrons young at heart have the opportunity to touch, hold, and even play violins, trumpets, percussion, harp, and more. For information on hosting an Instrument Petting Zoo at your school or educational event, contact us.
