The Orchestra MovesAPPROPRIATE FOR TEACHERS & STUDENTS: 3RD – 5TH GRADEIn partnership with the Carnegie Hall Weill Music Institute
For the past several years, the ECSO has presented Young People’s Concerts (YPCs) at the Garde Arts Center. These concerts are sponsored in large part by the Community Foundation of Southeastern Connecticut. The audience consists of third, fourth, and fifth-graders from many communities in New London County who receive specialized curriculum in advance of the concert to prepare them to enjoy the experience. For our 2022-23 YPCs, we have partnered with Carnegie Hall to present “Link Up”, an interactive format that teaches music education through recorder training, movement, and singing, which culminates in a performance that places the participants in a central role with the orchestra. If your school would like to be included in this program, please contact us at [email protected]
Each year, the ECSO reaches over 6,000 students in New London County. Approximately 25 Music in the Schools programs are presented our musicians in concert demonstrations in elementary and middle schools throughout Connecticut. If your school would like to be included in this program, please contact us.
The Annual ECSO Instrumental Competition provides a wonderful opportunity for instrumentalists through the age of 25 to win cash prizes as well as appear with the orchestra in a subscription concert.
This season’s competition will be on March 11, 2023.
The competition is open to instrumentalists with no minimum age requirement through the age of 25. Contestants vie for cash prizes and the chance to perform with the ECSO in a subscription concert. The finals are open to the public free-of-charge. Families are encouraged to attend this afternoon of performances by young talented musicians. Complimentary refreshments are served while the judges retreat to chambers and make their selections.
